This page shows some spiders that can be found in the Sydney and Blue Mountains and other regions of Australia. Click on the pictures to show more information about each of the different spiders.

This section of the site is quite new and I will add more spiders as I get around to it, and add more information about the spiders that are there already.

Note that nearly all the photos I've taken (so far anyway) are of dead spiders, and their colour often becomes lighter (less black) after they have been dead for a while.

Nearly all the photos so far were taken in Sydney at the Australian Museum Spiders Exhibition, using a Nikon D700 camera with a Tamron SP 90mm F/2.8 Di MACRO 1:1 VC USD lens.

Flower Spider NEW Australomisidia cruentata (previously Diaea cruentata). Size: Male body 3 mm, female body 5 mm
Money Spider Various Size: Body 1-6 mm
Peacock Spider NEW Maratus volans Size: Male and female up to 5 mm body length
Pirate Spider Australomimetus maculosus Size: 4-8 mm body length

Eastern Mouse Spider NEW Missulena bradleyi Size: Male body 14 mm, Female body 20 mm Dangerously venomous
Garden Orb-Weaving Spider Eriophora transmarina Size: Male 18 mm body, female 25 mm body
Wolf Spider Allocosa obscuroides Size: Body 15-18 mm
Huntsman Spider Isopeda sp. Size: Male body 14-18 mm, Female 21-23 mm
Brush-Footed Trapdoor Spider Maybe Idiommata Sp. Size: Body 10-35 mm
Brown Trapdoor Spider Misgolas Size: Male body 20 mm, female body 35 mm.
Tiger Huntsman Spider Typostola Sp. or possibly Beregama Sp. Size: I didn't measure it and it doesn't seem to have any official info. About 30mm body? It was quite large.
Eastern Golden Orb-Weaving Spider Nephila plumipes Size: Male 5 mm, female 35 mm
Sydney Funnel Web Spider Atrax robustus Size: Body 10-50 mm Dangerously venomous
Giant Water Spider NEW Megadolomedes australianus Size: Male body 10 mm, Female body 30 mm. Leg span up to 180 mm (18 cm).
Eastern Tarantula NEW Phlogius crassipes Size: Male body length up to 70 mm, Female body length up to 90 mm. Legspan up to 220 mm (22 cm).
