Family: Octopodidae, the octopus family, which contains the majority (but not all) of known octopus species.

Size: Body to 80cm, arm span to 2 metres!

Distribution:

Habitat: Octopus tetricus occurs in the intertidal zone along rocky shores and in the ocean. It is a territorial species which sits out the day in a lair among rocks and rubble, the rubble being collected to create a defensible lair.

About the Common Sydney Octopus

The Common Sydney Octopus can grow quite large, though they are usually smaller than that. They are molluscs, not fish, though they are included in the "fish" section of the website because they're found in the water with fish, and not on the land with insects or frogs, etc.
